Highlights

About the School

Guru - Shishya
Tradition
  • Guru - Shishya tradition in Indian culture, is the tradition of mentoring where teachings are transmitted from a Guru “teacher” to a Shishya “disciple”.
  • It is considered that this relationship is based on the genuineness of the guru and the respect which is not based on age, commitment, devotion and obedience of the student. Knowledge is conveyed orally and not written down. The student eventually masters the knowledge that the guru embodies.
  • The school truly believes, respects and has continually followed this old tradition even in the current year and age.
Skilled
Teaching
  • Teaching Indian music is a very skilled art and requires a patient, encouraging and disciplined approach. Good communication and motivational skills are also required. Our teaching style has been developed by initially learning from musical masters, gaining experiences from performing and coaching students for over 50 years.
  • Students are taught in a very disciplined manner and are expected to practice (riyaaz) on a daily basis. Regular grading of students ensures that they are retaining information. Students who pass their grading are encouraged to perform, initially within the school and then to a wider audience once they have gained enough experience and confidence.
  • The school believes in such skilled teaching and is achieved by constant commitment and hours and hours of practice (riyaaz). A student is taught how to play the instruments in rhythm with other musicians and the student is expected to master this very important aspect of music which is achieved only by hard work, persistence and passion.
Concerts & Learning
Environment
  • Performing in live concert is part of learning and demonstrating the capabilities learned by a student from the teacher. The school is regularly invited by various communities and other private sponsors to perform in a live environment and has received enormous recognition. All the students have the opportunity and capability to perform in a live concert and the school encourages the students to train towards that.
  • In addition to live concerts, the school arranges regular learning workshops at other locations where the school has an association. The workshops are regularly being conducted across the entire UK and also overseas. During such workshops the students have opportunity to learn and practice more of the music.
instrument
sales & care
  • Sangeet Vidya Progression has always had a policy of using the best instruments even for a beginner. This ensures that the student does not waste money on a sub-standard instrument which are often made of cheap materials and produce poor quality sound.
  • We have teamed up with renowned skilled craftsmen who hand produce our instruments using only the best materials available. The instruments are quality tested before leaving the workshop and re-tested on arrival prior to handing over to the student.
  • Our percussion instruments are of a very high quality. Tabla and Dholak materials such as the top skin (Pudi) are carefully hand picked. The standard of the skins are the same as those used by world renowned rhythmists e.g Ustad Zakhir Hussain.
  • Regular Servicing ensures the longevity and quality of the instrument which is why students are encouraged to service their instruments annually. We also offer an instrument repair service which is undertaken by trained professionals.

Note : It should be noted that Sangeet Vidya Progression is a Music School and not a Music Shop. We are involved in student’s musical progress which is why we offer this sales and repair services.
